The jumbled nature of Jenn Frank's writing in this piece makes everything feel real, like it's happening right now, in front of us. We writers often try to organize our thoughts in a way that will hook entertain or inform the reader; the writing here often feels passive, and the events flow over us.

This is a game that won't find a wide audience - some people will simply never have the chance to play, and others will abstain to keep guard themselves emotionally - and this makes her storytelling all the more important. To try and make this into a story, instead of sharing the experience, would have been a disservice.

There are some games you simply cannot "win." Sometimes, maybe it's important that you don't. Sometimes that can be helpful in its own way.
