Comas

Comas

Internationally-acclaimed band Comas, known for their powerful take on traditional Irish music, will play at The ArtsCenter on Tuesday, April 23rd at 8:00pm. Tickets will be $16 for Friends of The ArtsCenter, $20 General advance, and $24 Day of Show. For more information or to purchase tickets, please go to www.artscenterlive.org, visit our box office at 300-G East Main St ? Carrboro, NC 27510, or call 919.929.2787.

Combining their many cultural influences, they forged a unique blend of traditional Irish music which had them playing at major festivals in Ireland, Belgium, France, England, Denmark and Holland within months. As further testimony to their deep-rooted talents, they were immediately asked back to every festival they played ? ?before we even had time to put our instruments away,? says Philip.

?Comas powerfully conveys the joy of playing traditional Irish music with like-minded musicians,? said Art Menius, Executive Director of The ArtsCenter. ?The excitement they bring to stage demonstrates the very best essence of Celtic music.?

By the end of 2003 Comas had built up a sizable reputation in Europe and was hailed in the press as: ?The revelation of 2003? (S.Vandenberghe-NVFOLK) and ?The best traditional band around? (Folkspot). They brought out a self-titled CD Comas and have toured in Europe when schedules permitted. In 2011 they decided to really take Comas on the road and have finally begun touring in North America. Again, they are immediately invited back wherever they go. When you hear Comas you will know that their choice of name was no mere accident ? it translates from Irish/Gaelic as ?power.? Their own driving power, coupled with a fine sensitivity for the inner strands of magic inherent in Irish music, is exactly what this band is about!

Programs at The ArtsCenter are supported in part by Brooks Pierce, Chapel Hill Restaurant Group, Giorgios Hospitality Group, The North Carolina Arts Council, The Orange County Arts Commission, and Tony Hall and Associates.

We are proud to be a Fair Trade Music Venue.
