TORONTO?-?

Those who have been waiting in anticipation for the Toronto Sun tape to be played in the Rob Ford $6-million libel trial will have to wait until Friday when the mayor takes the stand.

Restaurateur George Foulidis is suing Ford over ?defamatory? comments Ford made during a 2010 Sun editorial board meeting, which was to be played in court Thursday, but was stalled because the audio is still being transcribed.

Instead, on the third day of the trial, Ford?s lawyer Gavin Tighe finished his cross-examination of Foulidis, who said while the city has the right to scrutinize its business deals, Ford crossed the line.

?Business is business. Allegations of corruption is not business,? Foulidis, the owner of the Boardwalk Cafe told Justice John Macdonald.

?Doing business with the city or any level of government does not mean that level of government or anyone representing it should allege corruption about that deal, unless they have some proof of that corruption.?

During that August editorial board meeting, Ford denounced a 20-year, sole-sourced agreement that city council awarded Foulidis? company, Tuggs Inc., to operate the Boardwalk Cafe.

A clip of the tape posted on torontosun.com Ford being asked if he could undo the ?Foulidis deal.?

?On the Tuggs? Absolutely. It?s in camera obviously, it?s confidential. I wish that you guys knew what happened in camera ? which a lot of you do, obviously,? he said.

?But, these in camera meetings, there is more corruption and skullduggery going on in there than I?ve ever seen in my life. And if Tuggs isn?t, I don?t know what it is. And I can?t accuse anyone, or I can?t pinpoint it, but why do we have to go in camera on a Tuggs deal.?

Tighe reiterated in court that Ford never spoke Foulidis? name during the meeting and then pointed out other newspaper articles, including several columns by the Sun?s Joe Warmington, which puts the restaurateur in a ?positive? light.

?I took offence to the word ?corruption? in the article published by the Sun. None of the other articles mentioned that,? Foulidis countered.

?Words of corruption mean a lot when they are spoken about me. I followed the process that was given to me...all I wanted to do is re-negotiate my lease.?

Ford left the courtroom in the Canada Life building during a morning break to coach his Don Bosco high school football team in a playoff game.

The mayor will miss the arrival of the Grey Cup trophy at City Hall Friday to testify in court.
